Kerala to receive heavy rainfall; Orange alert in 8 districts
Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has informed that very heavy rainfall is likely to lash isolated places in the state in upcoming hours. IMD has sounded orange alert in 8 districts - Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod on Monday.
In the wake of the forecast, Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has alerted on the possibility of disasters like landslide and mudflow in hilly regions where extremely heavy rainfall was received the other day. KSDMA alerted people residing in hilly regions and government systems to stay vigilant.
The forecast of very heavy rain by IMD indicates the possibility of the state receiving 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm rainfall within 24 hours.
KSDMA warned that night traffic should be restricted in hilly regions where very heavy rainfall is forecast.
Meanwhile, IMD has also issued a yellow alert in Thrissur and Malappuram districts on Monday. Also, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts have been placed under yellow alert on Tuesday.
Isolated parts of these districts are expected to receive heavy rainfall from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
