Kerala to increase number of COVID-19 tests, testing centres
Thiruvananthapuram: In view of the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases, the number of tests and testing centres will be increased in Kerala, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Tuesday. He informed that till date, over 3 lakh samples were tested in the state. He was addressing the media after the COVID review meeting here.
“At first, we carried out all the sample tests at a single testing centre. But now there are 59 testing centres in the public sector and 51 in the private sector in the state. Earlier, only PCR tests were conducted in the state. Now, we have the facilities to carry out antibody, antigen, TrueNat, genexpert and immunoassay tests to diagnose the disease,” said the Chief Minister.
Till date, 3,08,348 samples were sent for tests. Out of this, results of 7,410 samples are awaited. Apart from this, 1,00,942 samples were collected from priority groups as part of sentimental surveillance. Out of this, 96,544 samples tested negative,informed the Chief Minister at the press meeting.
