Kerala to have 10 mini food parks, floor price of paddy hiked to Rs 28.20

Kerala finance minister KN Balagopal while presenting the state budget for the financial year 2022 has made a slew of announcements for the agricultural sector. The minister has informed that there will be a special programme for development of agri-based products. The approvals for such initiatives, will happen in a speedy manner, he said. Similarly, the issuance of interest-free loans and subsidies will be made swift.

One of the interesting announcements to the sector is the proposal for producing diluted alcohol from ethanol extracted from fruits. Likewise, Rs 2 crore has been allocated for the extraction of ethanol from tapioca. The major announcements to the sector are as follows:

  • Rs 5 crore for production of value-added products
  • Rs 125 crore has been allocated for the launch of 7 agri-tech centres under agricultural department
  • Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the launch of 10 mini food parks in the state
  • Rs 500 crore has been allocated for rubber subsidy
  • Rs 79 crore has been allocated for development of coconut cultivation
  • Rs 30 crore has been allocated for agricultural insurance
  • Rs 76 crore has been allocated for development of paddy cultivation. Similarly, the floor price of paddy has been increased to Rs 28.20
  • A new company will be launched for marketing agricultural products
  • A new chain of eco-shops will be launched for the sales of agricultural products
