Kannur: As many as 28 new fast track courts exclusively to hear POCSO cases, announced in the state budget 2022-23, are approved. District judges were asked to submit a detailed report to the Kerala High Court on the matter.

The new courts will come up in Thiruvananthapuram, Neyyattinkara, Varkala, Kattakada, Kollam, Kottarakkara, Cherthala, Chengannur, Erattupetta, Devikulam, North Paravur, Thrissur, Wadakkanchery, Chavakkad, Kodungallur, Chalakkudy, Alathur, Manjeri, Nilambur, Parappanangadi, Ponnani, Perinthalmanna, Nadapuram, Sultan Bathery, Kannur, Mattannur and Kasaragod.

The courts will help speed up POCSO cases. Supreme Court had ordered that the sexual harassment cases against children should be completed within a year. However, this could not be done due to lack of courts. As of now, two courts function in each district. Union and state governments join hands to establish fast track courts.
