Kerala to borrow Rs 2000 crores

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has decided to borrow Rs 2000 crores more from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The RBI loan auction is scheduled to take place on June 6. If the loan gets sanctioned, the borrowings for the current financial year is expected to cross Rs 15,390 crores.

Earlier, Kerala had sent an official letter to the centre seeking clarity on the borrowing capacity for the current fiscal year. Distribution of welfare pensions in the state for the last three months is still pending. Around Rs 2,400 crores will be required in this regard. Meanwhile, the pending welfare pensions for at least 2 months are expected to be released soon.
