Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has taken measures to introduce modern courses in universities across the state. Additionally, the universities will recruit teachers on contract basis for a period of five years instead of making one-year appointments as guest lecturers. Earlier, it was alleged that appointing guest lecturers for a one-year period is affecting the quality of teaching.

The faculty appointments will be based on published research papers and work experience. Teachers appointed on five-year contracts will be given UGC Pay scale and will also be allowed annual increments. After five years, the teachers will be interviewed and appointed permanently. Work experience in project-based courses will be an advantage.
