Kerala stops antigen tests in private labs
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has officially stopped antigen tests for COVID-19 in private labs. The government has taken the decision at the COVID-19 review meeting held here on Saturday. Till date, 90 percent of the adult population has received the first dose of the COVID vaccine in the state. Observing this, the government has decided to stop antigen tests in private labs.
Hence, antigen tests will be conducted only for the emergency purpose in government or private hospitals as prescribed by the doctor.
A special vaccination drive will be held to vaccinate all people above 65 years. As unvaccinated people are succumbing to the virus, special awareness programmes will be held.
Lockdown will be imposed in places where the Weekly Infection Population Ratio is above 10. At present, strict restrictions like lockdown are imposed in places where WIPR is above 8.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the health department to take strict action for confirming quarantine rules are followed. He also asked to ensure that people without COVID symptoms are not undergoing the tests.
