Kerala should be vigilant to stop COVID spread in rural areas: V Muraleedharan
New Delhi: Union minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan stated that the central government appealed to the states to accelerate preventive activities to stop spread of COVID-19 in rural areas. Kerala should focus on this matter. The central government has supplied huge stock of medicines for COVID treatment in Kerala, the union minister added.
“Tocilizumab is a major medicine like Remdesivir used for COVID treatment. The central government had distributed 45,000 vials of Tocilizumab the other day. Kerala is among the three states which received the largest stock of this medicine. 4500 vials of tocilizumab medicine was supplied to Kerala,” informed Muraleedharan.
The central government has also taken steps to ramp up the production of Amphotericin B, a medicine used in COVID treatment. The states will receive this medicine as per demand in the next few days, he added.
Tata Memorial Centre under the Atomic Energy department is taking the effort to ensure COVID treatment to cancer patients. Various equipment for COVID prevention including oxygen concentrator and N95 mask is being collected and supplied under the coordination of Tata Memorial Centre.
Three hospitals in Kerala are working in association with the Tata Memorial Centre. Over 100 hospitals across India are benefited from the project, added V Muraleedharan.
The union finance ministry had allotted fund to local bodies for COVID management. This fund should be utilized for COVID preventive measures only, pointed out the union minister.
