Kerala schools to switch to LPG for cooking mid-day meals from Nov 1
Kunchithanni: The Director of Public Instruction (DPI) has issued a circular asking school authorities to replace firewood with LPG cylinders in kitchens to prepare mid-day meals from November 1.
Schools not having LPG connection should apply for one immediately. Noon-feeding officers in all Educational Sub-Districts in the state will ensure that the schools have implemented the order.
The aim of the reform is to promote a sense of environment protection among the students.
Also, the Noon-Feeding Monitoring team had found some discrepancy with regard to the expenses related to firewood purchase in some schools. Once the school kitchens shift to LPG, such malpractices can be checked as it renders exact bills.
However, there is a chance that schools in villages may face difficulty since in most such places, only one LPG cylinder is supplied to a client in a month.
