Thiruvananthapuram: Several cultural activists of the left-wing have come forward with disapproval over the decision to appoint singer M G Sreekumar as the chairman of Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi. They have raised questions through social media against selecting Sreekumar, who leans towards BJP, for the post.

As protests intensified, Minister Saji Cheriyan has come out with an explanation that the government has not taken an official decision on the matter so far.

The CPM secretariat meeting had decided to consider director Ranjith as the chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy and singer M G Sreekumar as the chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi. The news regarding this came out the other day.

Many people including writer Saradakutty and Congress leader V T Balram had questioned the appointment.

When V Muraleedharan was contesting in Kazhakkoottam in 2016, M G Sreekumar had inaugurated his Facebook page. A statement that he made while attending the function is now being widely circulated online. He can be heard saying that ‘Lotus will bloom in Kazhakkoottam’ directly hinting at the win of the BJP party in the election.
