Kerala's youngest COVID patient recovers, returns home

The baby was confirmed with the disease when it was only 5 days old.

Chathannoor (Kollam): The youngest baby who was confirmed with COVID-19 in the state recovered from the disease and returned to home from Parippally medical college here. The baby's mother a Kalluvathukkal Mevanakkonam native is still under treatment in hospital. She tested positive in the fluid test and the new test results are yet to come.

The hospital authorities discussed with the family about letting the baby stay in the hospital until the woman recovers. However, the family was willing to take the baby home and the infant was discharged, hospital superintendent Habeeb Naseem told Mathrubhumi.

The woman hailing from Kalluvathukkal, which is a COVID hotspot, was admitted in Victoria hospital on May 20. Her test results after delivery were positive and she was rushed to Parippally medical college on May 23. The baby was confirmed with the disease when it was only 5 days old.

All facilities including specially trained nursing staff were ready at the hospital to take care of the baby. The medical college authorities stated that the baby's recovery gives relief and confidence to all health workers in the district in fighting the pandemic.
