Kozhikode: In a major move, the Kerala Tourism department has launched plans to popularise water sports and activities in Kozhikode's Beypore region.
The first surfing school in Kerala will be established at Gotheeswaram Beach in Beypore under the Responsible Tourism Mission Club. Interestingly, this will be the first state government-owned surfing school in Kerala.
Minister PA Muhammad Riyas will inaugurate the school at 9 am on Sunday.
The authorities aim to bolster tourism in Beypore region by promoting water sports for domestic and foreign tourists.
With the help of the Responsible Tourism Mission, the department has given basic surfing training to 10 youths in the region. These 10 men have been qualified as surfing trainers after participating in the training programme provided by the International Surfing Federation under the supervision of the Adventure Tourism Promotion Society.
