Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 6,419 coronavirus cases on Wednesday, said Health Minister K. K. Shailaja in a press statement.
7,066 recoveries were reported in the state on Wednesday. 67,369 samples were tested in the past 24-hours. 28 deaths due to Covid were also confirmed by NIV Alappuzha. With this, the death toll in the state due to coronavirus rose to 1,943.
So far, 56,21,634 samples, including those collected from priority groups as part of sentinel surveillance, were sent for testing. Test positivity rate is 9.53.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases are: Ernakulam – 887, Kozhikode – 811, Thrissur – 703, Kollam – 693, Alappuzha – 637, Malappuram – 507, Thiruvananthapuram – 468, Palakkad – 377, Kottayam – 373, Idukki – 249, Pathanamthitta – 234, Kannur – 213, Wayanad – 158 and Kasaragod – 109.
5,576 persons contracted the virus through contact out of which the infection source of 677 is unknown. Out of the new patients, 98 had returned from outside the state.
The district-wise statistics of contact cases are: Ernakulam – 658, Kozhikode – 721, Thrissur – 680, Kollam – 686, Alappuzha – 624, Malappuram – 474, Thiruvananthapuram – 346, Palakkad – 235, Kottayam – 372, Idukki – 209, Pathanamthitta – 169, Kannur – 153, Wayanad – 148 and Kasaragod – 101.
68 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19. Among them, 19 are from Ernakulam, 11 each are from Kozhikode and Kannur, 5 each are from Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram, 4 each are from Thrissur and Palakkad, 3 are from Idukki and 2 each are from Kollam, Kasaragod and Wayanad.
The district-wise recoveries are: Thiruvananthapuram – 579, Kollam – 577, Pathanamthitta – 226, Alappuzha – 368, Kottayam – 776, Idukki – 185, Ernakulam – 720, Thrissur – 793, Palakkad – 624, Malappuram – 661, Kozhikode – 920, Wayanad – 76, Kannur – 376 and Kasaragod – 185.
There are 69,394 active Coronavirus cases in Kerala while 4,68,460 have recovered. As many as 3,18,833 are under observation. Among them, 3,02,330 are in home/institutional quarantine while 16,503 are in hospitals. 2,11 were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday.
6 new Covid hotspots were identified in the state on Wednesday while 18 regions were removed from the list. There are a total of 587 hotspots in the state.
