Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 6,268 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, informed Health Minister KK Shailaja in a press statement. The test positivity rate was recorded at 10.66 percent in the state.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam – 865, Kollam – 674, Kozhikode – 710, Kottayam – 623, Pathanamthitta – 447, Alappuzha – 421, Thrissur – 497, Malappuram – 414, Thiruvananthapuram – 414, Idukki – 302, Kannur – 349, Palakkad – 259, Wayanad – 173 and Kasaragod – 120.
One UK returnee tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 75 UK returnees tested positive for the virus infection. 53 of them have recovered. 10 among the patients have been identified with the mutant virus strain.
58,815 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is at 10.66 percent. So far, 95,18,036 samples have been tested across various priority groups.
22 deaths have been confirmed in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the state has reached 3,704.
118 of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 5,647 people have contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 455 persons remains unidentified.

48 health workers also tested positive. Among them, 15 were from Kannur, 10 from Thrissur, 5 from Kollam, 4 from Kozhikode, 3 each from Palakkad and Kasaragod, 2 each from Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Wayanad, 1 each from Kottayam and Malappuram.
6,398 recoveries were reported on Friday. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram – 376, Kollam – 461, Pathanamthitta – 418, Alappuzha – 244, Kottayam – 639, Idukki – 229, Ernakulam – 711, Thrissur – 588, Palakkad – 821, Malappuram – 799, Kozhikode – 670, Wayanad – 206, Kannur – 183 and Kasaragod – 53.
There are 72,239 active Covid cases in the state. 8,41,444 people have recovered from the disease.
There are 2,15, 650 people under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,03,898 are under home/ institutional quarantine and 11,752 people are in hospitals. 1,496 people were taken to hospitals on Friday.
2 areas have been added to the hotspot list on Friday while 6 regions have been removed from the list. There are currently 400 hotspots in the state.
