Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 6,004 fresh Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja in a press release.
69,081 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate was at 8.69 percent. 5,158 recoveries were also recorded on Wednesday.
5,401 people contracted the virus through contact. The source of 477 contact cases could not be traced. 26 deaths were confirmed in the last 24 hours.

One of the UK returnees tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 56 UK returnees have tested positive for coronavirus. Their samples were sent to Pune NIV for further tests. Out of them, 6 have been identified as mutant virus strain.

53 health workers also tested positive. Among them, 12 were from Ernakulam, 9 from Kozhikode, 7 from Thiruvananthapuram, 6 each from Pathanamthitta and from Kannur, 4 each from Palakkad and Wayanad, 2 each from Thrissur and Kasaragod and 1 from Kottayam.

Currently, there are 65,373 Covid positive cases in the state. Meanwhile, 7,56,817 people have recovered from the disease. There are 2,00,259 people under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,89,550 are under home/ institutional quarantine and 10,709 people are in hospitals. 1,333 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.
2 areas were declared hotspots on Wednesday. Meanwhile, 11 areas were removed from the hotspot list. With this, there are a total of 427 hotspots in the state.
