Kerala reports 5,718 COVID-19 cases on Friday; test positivity rate at 9.95 percent


57,456 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 29 deaths were confirmed in the state on Friday by NIV Alappuzha. With this, the total number of coronavirus fatalities rose to 2,358.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 5,718 COVID-19 cases on Friday, informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja.

The district wise distribution of positive cases are: Malappuram - 943, Kozhikode - 773, Kottayam - 570, Thrissur - 528, Ernakulam - 486, Palakkad - 447, Alappuzha - 394, Kollam - 318, Thiruvananthapuram - 279, Kannur - 275, Idukki – 216, Wayanad – 180, Pathanamthitta – 163 and Kasaragod – 146.

57,456 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is at 9.95 percent. So far, 64,96,210 samples were tested in different priority groups.

29 deaths were confirmed in the state on Friday by NIV Alappuzha. With this, the total number of coronavirus fatalities rose to 2,358.

Out of the total number of positive cases, 95 people came from outside the state. 4,991 people contracted the virus through contact. The virus source of 572 cases has not been identified.

The district wise statistics of contact cases are: Malappuram - 903, Kozhikode – 735, Kottayam - 559, Thrissur - 512, Ernakulam - 359, Palakkad - 234, Alappuzha - 376, Kollam - 314, Thiruvananthapuram - 174, Kannur - 223, Idukki – 177, Wayanad – 172, Pathanamthitta – 115 and Kasaragod – 138.

60 health workers tested COVID positive on Friday. The district wise cases of COVID positive health workers are: Kannur – 13, Thiruvananthapuram – 8, Thrissur and Ernakulam – 7 each, Palakkad – 6, Pathanamthitta – 5, Malappuram – 4, Kozhikode – 3, Idukki, Wayanad and Kasaragod – 2 each and Kollam - 1.

5,496 people have recovered from the disease. The district wise statistics of negative cases are: Thiruvananthapuram - 451, Kollam - 662, Pathanamthitta - 130, Alappuzha - 548, Kottayam - 500, Idukki - 109, Ernakulam - 440, Thrissur - 377, Palakkad - 444, Malappuram - 796, Kozhikode – 554, Wayanad - 139, Kannur – 276 and Kasaragod - 70.

Currently, there are 61,401 people undergoing treatment in the state. 5,61,874 people have recovered from the disease.

3,14,029 people are under observation across various districts in the state. Out of this, 2,98,929 people are in home/institutional quarantine and 15,100 people are in hospitals. 1,726 people were taken to hospitals on Friday.

6 new hotspots were identified in the state on Friday while 38 areas were removed from the list. In total, there are 444 hotspots in Kerala.
