Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Thursday reported 5,281 new Covid-19 cases, informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja. The test positivity rate was at 7.37 percent.
71,656 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 5,692 recoveries were also reported on Thursday, she added.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Pathanamthitta – 649, Ernakulam – 632, Kozhikode – 614, Kollam – 579, Malappuram – 413, Kottayam - 383, Thrissur – 375, Alappuzha - 342, Thiruvananthapuram - 293, Kannur – 251, Palakkad – 227, Idukki – 196, Wayanad – 180 and Kasaragod – 102.
None of the UK returnees tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 81 UK returnees tested positive for the virus infection. 70 of them have recovered. 10 among the patients have been identified with the mutant virus strain.

106 of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 4,783 people have contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 360 persons remains unidentified.

32 health workers also tested positive. Among them, 9 were from Kannur, 5 from Ernakulam, 3 each from Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Kozhikode, 2 each from Malappuram, Wayanad and Kasaragod and 1 each from Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Kottayam.
5,692 recoveries were reported on Thursday. The district-wise statistics of recoveries is: Thiruvananthapuram – 400, Kollam – 306, Pathanamthitta – 452, Alappuzha – 423, Kottayam – 502, Idukki – 481, Ernakulam – 669, Thrissur – 373, Palakkad – 142, Malappuram – 589, Kozhikode – 666, Wayanad – 308, Kannur – 332 and Kasaragod – 49.
There are 63,915 active Covid-19 cases in the state. 9,20,539 people have recovered from the disease. 2,36,185 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,25,803 are under home/ institutional quarantine and 10,382 people are in hospitals. 1,128 people were taken to hospitals on Thursday.
3 areas were added to the hotspot list on Thursday while 7 places were removed from the list. There are currently 455 hotspots in the state.
