Kerala reports 5,266 COVID cases in last 24 hours; test positivity rate reaches 10.94%

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala reported 5,266 fresh COVID-19 cases on Sunday, informed health minister KK Shailaja in an official press release. The test positivity rate in the state reached 10.94 percent.

The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam – 743, Kozhikode – 650, Kottayam – 511, Pathanamthitta – 496, Kollam – 484, Malappuram – 482, Thrissur – 378, Alappuzha – 371, Thiruvananthapuram – 300, Kannur – 230, Palakkad – 211, Idukki – 187, Wayanad – 153, and Kasaragod – 70.

One UK returnee tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 77 UK returnees tested positive for the virus infection. 56 of them have recovered. 10 among the patients have been identified with the mutant virus strain.

48,118 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The test positivity rate is at 10.94 percent. So far, 96,25,913 samples have been tested across various priority groups.

21 deaths have been confirmed in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the state has reached 3,743.

71 of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 4,746 people have contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 407 persons remains unidentified.

The district-wise statistics of contact cases: Ernakulam – 688, Kozhikode – 634, Kottayam – 457, Pathanamthitta – 454, Kollam – 480, Malappuram – 474, Thrissur – 372, Alappuzha – 365, Thiruvananthapuram – 201, Kannur – 159, Palakkad – 80, Idukki – 174, Wayanad – 149, and Kasaragod – 59.

42 health workers also tested positive. Among them, 9 were from Kannur, 7 from Kozhikode, 5 each from Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram, 4 from Palakkad, 2 each from Kollam, Kottayam, Thrissur, Kasaragod, Wayanad and Pathanamthitta.

5,730 recoveries were reported on Sunday. The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram – 382, Kollam – 306, Pathanamthitta – 402, Alappuzha – 471, Kottayam – 424, Idukki – 354, Ernakulam – 725, Thrissur – 484, Palakkad – 429, Malappuram – 387, Kozhikode – 790, Wayanad – 287, Kannur – 197 and Kasaragod – 92.

There are 70,983 active Covid cases in the state. 8,54,206 people have recovered from the disease.

There are 2,18, 874 people under observation in the state. Out of this, 2,07,392 are under home/ institutional quarantine and 11,482 people are in hospitals. 1,330 people were taken to hospitals on Sunday.

1 area has been added to the hotspot list on Sunday while 22 regions have been removed from the list. There are currently 375 hotspots in the state.
