Kerala reports 225 COVID-19 cases on Sunday; 126 recoveries

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 225 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday while 126 recovered from the virus, informed Health Minister K. K. Shailaja in an official press release.

It is for the third consecutive day that Kerala is recording over 200 coronavirus cases. The state has been recording over 100 virus cases for the last 17 days.

Palakkad recorded the highest number with 29 positive cases, followed by Kasaragod – 28, Thiruvananthapuram - 27, Malappuram – 26, Kannur – 25, Kozhikode – 20, Alappuzha – 13, Ernakulam - 12, Thrissur – 12, Kollam – 10, Kottayam – 8, Idukki – 6, Wayanad – 6 and Pathanamthitta – 3.

Out of the total 225 people tested positive, 117 had returned from abroad. They include 35 from Saudi Arabia, 30 from UAE, 21 from Kuwait, 17 from Qatar, 9 from Oman, 4 from Bahrain and 1 from Russia.

Meanwhile, 57 returned from other states. They include 24 from Karnataka, 12 from Delhi, 10 from Tamil Nadu, 8 from Maharashtra, 2 from Telangana and 1 from Haryana.

Among them 22 are from Thiruvananthapuram, 5 are from Kozhikode, 4 are from Kasaragod, 3 are from Ernakulam, 2 are from Malappuram and 1 each are from Kollam and Alappuzha. Moreover, 7 DSC and 2 CISF officers in Kannur, 2 BSF officers in Thrissur and 2 ship crew have also developed the disease.

Out of the 126 patients who tested negative, 31 are from Kollam, 28 are from Malappuram, 12 are from Thrissur, 11 are from Thiruvananthapuram (including 1 Alappuzha native), 10 each are from Pathanamthitta (including 1 Alappuzha native) and Ernakulam (2 Kottayam natives and 1 Palakkad native), 7 are from Palakkad, 6 are from Wayanad, 5 are from Kozhikode while 3 each are from Kottayam and Kannur.

At present 2,228 people are undergoing treatment in the state while 3,174 have recovered. 1,80,939 people are under observation in the state, out of which 1,77,995 are in home/institutional quarantine while 2,944 are in hospitals. 377 people were taken to the hospitals on Sunday.

7,461 samples were tested in the last 24 hours in Kerala. So far 2,68,218 samples have been collected in the state as part of routine, sentinel, pooled sentinel, CB NAAT and True Nat testing. Out of them the result of 5,881 samples are awaited. As part of sentinel surveillance, 58,728 samples have been collected from high priority categories. Out of them, 56,374 samples tested negative.
