Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 2,791 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kerala on Saturday. The test positivity rate continued to decline and was recorded at 4.52 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Kozhikode – 376, Kollam – 299, Malappuram – 286, Ernakulam – 237, Thrissur – 231, Kottayam – 223, Pathanamthitta – 222, Kannur – 215, Alappuzha – 206, Thiruvananthapuram – 188, Palakkad – 102, Kasaragod – 89, Wayanad – 61 and Idukki - 56.
Meanwhile, no UK returnees tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 99 people returned from foreign countries tested positive for the virus infection. 83 of them have recovered. So far, 11 patients have been identified with the mutant virus strain.
61,764 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 1,18,40,927 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
16 deaths were confirmed due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the state has touched 4,287. Test results from Alappuzha NIV are awaited to confirm other suspected Covid deaths.
72 of the coronavirus patients came from outside the state. 2,535 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 169 persons remains unidentified.

15 health workers also tested positive. Among them 3 each were from Kozhikode and Kannur, 2 each from Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Kasaragod and 1 each from Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur.
Meanwhile, 3,517 recoveries were reported on Saturday.

There are 42,819 active Covid-19 cases in the state. 10,27,826 people have recovered from the disease. 1,77,062 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,70,954 are under home/institutional quarantine and 6,081 people are in hospitals. 616 people were taken to hospitals on Saturday.
No new hotspot was identified on Saturday and one hotspot was removed from the list. Currently, there are 356 hotspots in the state.
