Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary and LDF Convener A Vijayaraghavan expressed gratitude over the support extended to the front in the local body elections.

“This is a proud moment for Keralites. The public rejected the attempts to sabotage the virtues of the state. This is a hopeful indicator,” he opined.

Unlike other elections, a great amount of allegations were levelled against the Chief Minister and the LDF by the Opposition. Kerala had never seen such a false campaign and claims. However, the public did not only fall for it, they rejected it and extended support to the present LDF government for its sincere developmental activities. The government had faced many challenges in this term including natural disasters and financial crunch. Even then the government considered the public of foremost importance and didn’t fail on the welfare activities, Vijayaraghavan added.

“The Opposition raised many false allegations against the government and tried to throw it out of power using central agencies. The BJP, UDF and religious fundamentalist forces joined hands against the secular government here. Also, the anti-communist media played their part in aiding them. But the public decided to stand by the government and the values it upholds. The election results are a reflection of the opportunistic political stance taken by the UDF ,” he further said.
