Ernakulam: Health Minister K. K. Shailaja stated that Kerala has recorded the lowest COVID-19 fatality rate compared to other states.
Examining the COVID death rate in other states, Kerala must have recorded over 10,000 fatalities. But we managed to control it below 500, she added.
The Health Minister also pointed out that Kerala was among the top states in giving medical care to COVID patients.
Shailaja was addressing a gathering after the inauguration of the modern COVID testing facility at Regional Public Health Laboratory here on Thursday.
“Ernakulam Regional Public Health Lab will become a model laboratory in the state by issuing test results immediately. First-Line Treatment Centres established in Ernakulam are functioning as a model for all centres,” she said.
Special care should be provided to the elderly and people suffering from chronic illness. Everyone is obliged to follow the guidelines issued under ‘Break the Chain’ campaign, the Health Minister stated.
“Grand Care project, implemented for the elderly, should be made more effective and all must stay vigilant to avoid the spread of COVID-19 at colonies,” she said.
CB-NAAT machine, a closed PCR facility, was installed using the infrastructure development fund provided by MLA John Fernandez. Through this machine, COVID test results can be obtained under an hour.
