Kerala records highest single-day toll of 198 COVID deaths, 23,513 new cases
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 23,513 new Covid cases on Saturday, informed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan while addressing the media here on Saturday. The state has registered the highest single-day toll of 198 new fatalities.With this, the death toll mounted to 8455.
The test positivity rate was recorded at 16.59 percent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Malappuram- 3990, Thiruvananthapuram- 2767, Palakkad-2682, Ernakulam- 2606, Kollam-2177, Alappuzha-1984, Thrissur- 1707, Kozhikode- 1354,Kottayam-1167, Kannur-984, Pathanamthitta- 683, Idukki-662, Kasaragod- 506, and Wayanad- 244.
A total of 1,41,759 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 1,95,82,046 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
None returned from the UK, South Africa and Brazil tested positive for Covid -19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 126 people including 116 UK returnees, 9 from South Africa and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 124 of them have recovered from the disease. So far, 11 patients have been infected with the mutant virus strain.
139 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 22,016 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1272 patients remains unidentified.
The district -wise statistics of contact cases: Malappuram- 3838, Thiruvananthapuram-2648, Palakkad-1791, Ernakulam-2528, Kollam-2163, Alappuzha-1977, Thrissur-1696, Kozhikode-1337, Kottayam-1125, Kannur- 908, Pathanamthitta- 656, Idukki-632, Kasaragod- 488 and Wayanad- 229.
86 health workers also tested positive for Covid -19. Among them, 18 were from Kannur, 11 from Kasaragod, 10 each from Ernakulam and Palakkad, 9 from Kollam, 8 from Thiruvananthapuram, 7 from Pathanamthitta, 6 from Thrissur, 4 from Wayanad, 2 from Kottayam and one from Idukki.
Meanwhile, 28,100 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district -wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram- 3058, Kollam- 1657, Pathanamthitta- 485, Alappuzha- 1780, Kottayam- 954, Idukki- 619, Ernakulam- 4280, Thrissur- 2574, Palakkad- 3060, Malappuram- 4289, Kozhikode- 2466, Wayanad- 839, Kannur– 1204 and Kasaragod- 835.
With this, the number of active cases touched 2,33,034 in the state. 22,52,505 people recovered from the disease so far.
8,35,866 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this 7,96,400 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 39,466people are in hospitals. 3624 people were taken to hospitals on Saturday.
Neither any place was added to the list of hotspots nor any place was removed from the list. Currently, there are 879 hotspots in the state.
