Kerala records highest single-day spike of 43,529 COVID cases, 95 deaths
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has recorded 43,520 new COVID cases on Wednesday. Along with recording the highest single-day spike, the state also confirmed 95 new fatalities. With this, the death toll mounted to 6053 in Kerala. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan informed while addressing the media here.
The test positivity rate also increased and touched at 29.75 per cent.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Ernakulam- 6,410, Malappuram- 5,388, Kozhikode- 4,418, Thiruvananthapuram- 4,284, Thrissur- 3,994, Palakkad- 3,520, Kollam-3,350, Kottayam- 2,904, Alappuzha- 2,601, Kannur- 2,346, Pathanamthitta- 1,339, Idukki- 1,305, Kasaragod- 969 and Wayanad- 701.
A total of 1,46,320 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
In total, 1,74,18,696 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RT-LAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
None returned from the UK, South Africa and Brazil tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. So far, 125 people including 115 UK returnees, 9 from South Africa and 1 from Brazil tested positive for the virus infection. 123 of them have recovered from the disease. So far, 11 patients have been infected with the mutant virus strain.
241 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state.
40,133 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 3010 patients remains unidentified.
The district-wise statistics of contact cases: Ernakulam- 6,247, Malappuram- 5,185, Kozhikode- 4,341, Thiruvananthapuram- 3,964, Thrissur- 3,962, Palakkad- 1,428, Kollam-3,336, Kottayam- 2,744, Alappuzha- 2,596, Kannur- 2,151, Pathanamthitta- 1,285, Idukki- 1,277, Kasaragod- 943 and Wayanad- 674.
145 health workers also tested positive for COVID-19. Among them, 33 were from Kannur, 23 from Thrissur, 15 from Ernakulam, 11 each from Palakkad and Kasaragod, 10 each from Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode and Wayanad, 8 from Kollam, 2 from Kottayam,and 1 each from Alappuzha and Idukki.
Meanwhile, 34,600 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram- 2,338, Kollam- 2,815, Pathanamthitta- 1,264, Alappuzha- 2,518, Kottayam- 2,171, Idukki- 1,287, Ernakulam- 4,474, Thrissur- 2,319, Palakkad- 3,100, Malappuram- 3,946, Kozhikode- 5,540, Wayanad- 446, Kannur- 1,907 and Kasaragod- 475.
With this, the number of active cases touched 4,32,789 in the state. Till date, 15,71,738 people recovered from the disease.
10,01,647 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this 9,67,211 are under home/institutional quarantine and 34,436 people are in hospitals. 3,593 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.
5 more places were added to the list of hotspots while 75 regions were removed from the list. Currently, there are 740 hotspots in the state.
