Kerala records 151 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday; 132 recoveries


It is for the 13th consecutive day that Kerala is recording over 100 new coronavirus cases. There are 2,130 active COVID-19 cases in the state at present while 2,436 recovered from the virus.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 151 new COVID cases within 24 hours on Wednesday while 132 people have recovered from the disease, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said. He was addressing the media after a coronavirus review meeting here.

It is for the 13th consecutive day that Kerala is recording over 100 new coronavirus cases.

Before going into the details of the virus cases reported on Wednesday, the CM remembered the services of doctors and health workers on the occasion of Doctor’s Day. He said that the tireless effort of doctors and health workers was a cornerstone of Kerala’s COVID-19 prevention.

He added that health workers across the globe have put their lives on the line to battle the pandemic.

Out of the 151 positive cases, Malappuram has the highest with 34 followed by Kannur with 27. There are 17 new cases in Palakkad, 16 in Thrissur, 12 in Ernakulam, 10 in Kasaragod, 8 in Alappuzha, 6 each in Pathanamthitta and Kozhikode, 4 each in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam, 3 each in Kollam and Wayanad and 1 in Idukki.

Out of the 151 cases, 86 came from abroad. This included 23 from UAE, 21 from Kuwait, 15 from Saudi Arabia, 10 from Qatar, 9 from Oman, 3 from Moldova and 1 each from Bahrain, UK, Russia, Yemen and Kazakhstan.

Meanwhile, 51 people came from other states. This included 17 from Tamil Nadu, 11 from Delhi, 10 from Karnataka, 3 from Maharashtra and 1 each from Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab. Moreover, 6 CISF officers in Kannur also tested positive for the virus.

13 persons contracted the virus through contact. They include 7 from Ernakulam, 3 from Alappuzha and 1 each from Alappuzha, Kannur and Kasaragod.

Kozhikode native Krishnan (68) who had committed suicide on June 27 was confirmed with the disease.

Out of the 132 patients who recovered from the disease, 3 are form Thiruvananthapuram, 21 are from Kollam, 5 are from Pathanamthitta, 9 are from Alappuzha, 6 are from Kottayam, 2 are from Idukki, 1 is from Ernakulam, 16 are from Thrissur, 11 are from Palakkad, 12 are from Malappuram, 15 are from Kozhikode (including 2 Malappuram natives and 1 Wayanad native), 2 are from Wayanad, 13 are from Kannur (including 1 Kasaragod native) while 16 are from Kasaragod.

There are 2,130 active COVID-19 cases in the state at present while 2,436 recovered from the virus. Currently 1,87,219 people are under observation in the state. Among them, 1,84,388 people are under home/institutional quarantine while 2,831 are in hospitals. 290 people were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday.

6,564 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. A total of 2,39,017 samples were sent for testing including routine, augmented, sentinel, pooled sentinel, CB NAT and TrueNat samples. The results of 4,042 samples are awaited. Also, 50,488 samples were collected as part of sentinel survey among frontline workers. Out of this, 48,442 came out negative.
