Kerala Rain: Avoid unnecessary travel to hilly areas, stay vigilant, says state government

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has requested the people to exercise caution in the wake of heavy rains in Kerala. It is suggested that people should avoid unnecessary travel to the hilly areas. Steps will be taken to ensure safety of Sabarimala pilgrims.

Pilgrims has been advised to avoid travelling at night and from entering water bodies. At the same time, the state control rooms can be contacted on toll-free number 1077.

A special control room will be set up at the Kochi Corporation to monitor the flash floods in the city. Meanwhile, control rooms will be functional 24 hours a day in all districts and taluk offices under the supervision of senior officials. Tourists are urged to avoid night trips and stay inside as much as possible.

Earlier, a meeting was convened by department heads in the presence of the chief secretary to take necessary steps on the matter.

State Police Chief Anil Kant has cautioned district police chiefs to make necessary preparations and stay vigilant.
