Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Power K Krishnankutty informed the assembly that electric vehicles will be purchased at affordable price for government and quasi-government employees.
Currently, the domestic production of electricity is 30 percent and 70-75 percent power is purchased from external sources. Majority of the income of Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is spent for purchasing electricity. The government gives priority to increase domestic power production at affordable rate.
Ten hydroelectric power projects of 193.5 megawatts will be completed within a short period. Five hydroelectric projects of 90 megawatts will be ready within this financial year. The feasibility study on 118 megawatt projects is progressing.
Besides, a feasibility study is underway on the Karappara project for irrigation in Palakkad district and to regulate flood water in Chalakkudy river. An extra 780 megawatts will be added on to the Idukki project. Irrigation facilities will be arranged in 50,000 acres of farm land through solar pumps. Also power supply will be ensured in 73 tribal colonies shortly, the minister said.
