Thiruvananthapuram: Amid the row over the reappointment of Kannur Vice-Chancellor, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has written a letter to the Chief Minister demanding to oust minister for higher education R Bindu from the cabinet. On the other day, Chennithala came forward seeking Bindu’s resignation from the ministerial post.
“If the higher education minister is not resigning from the post, immediate action should be taken to oust her from the cabinet,” Chennithala urged the CM in the letter.
The Congress leader has raised sharp criticism against minister Bindu over the alleged illegal reappointment of Kannur university vice-chancellor.
“The minister has misused her powers and violated the oath of office for re-appointing Kannur University VC,” he alleged.
“It is for the first time in Kerala, a governor has declared his resignation from university chancellor’s post in protest over the political interventions. It is confirmed that minister R Bindu pressurised the governor to sign the re-appointment order,” added Chennithala.
“As per the university act, the minister is not entitled to any special powers as the pro-chancellor of university. Neither the government nor the minister has any power in the appointment of the university vice-chancellor. So, the higher education minister is no more eligible to continue in the post,” reads Chennithala’s letter.
