Massive police raid in Varkala; 55 goondas held on Monday night

Varkala: Police nabbed several culprits including those who were absconding for years during the raids on Monday night within the Varkala sub-division limit. A total of 55 people including fugitives and goondas were arrested. Among the arrested, 6 are accused on the run for years. 17 suspects on whom the police have issued warrants and 9 people who are booked in several cases were also arrested.

The police have identified 59 persons named in the goonda list. Among them, 23 people who are engaged in criminal activities were detained by invoking preventive detention rules. The remaining 36 are under the surveillance of the police.

The raids were carried out under the direction of the district police chief Dr Divya V Gopinath as part of the mission to suppress the goonda activities in the district and restore the law and order system.

A team of station house officers in the sub-division led by Varkala DySP P Niyas carried out the raids. The DySP informed that the team will continue the inspections in the sub-division limit in the upcoming days.
