Thiruvananthapuram: In a move to strengthen the force, the Kerala police will purchase 500 Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) rifles and 1.51 lakh bullets. A fund of Rs 3.4 crore is estimated to purchase the rifles.
It is reported that Rs 76.13 lakh is allocated to buy the bullets from ammunition factory in Varangaon, Maharashtra. The state government has also granted permission to make advance payment to the factory.
At the same time, the state government has approved the department to purchase the rifles granted by union home ministry from Ishapore Rifle factory.
Earlier, the government had granted permission to buy tear gas shell and grenades.
