Kerala Police issues alert after IS members call for attack
Karipur: The Kerala Police has issued an alert to its forces after an Instagram voice message from members of the Islamic State calling for terror attacks in the state surfaced.
The police forces were alerted on the directives of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
The attack call was made by Abdul Rasheed, a Kasaragod-native who has joined the IS and is now reportedly working for the banned outfit from Nangarhar in Afghanistan.
Through the voice message, the IS members ask the IS sleeper cells in the state to trigger riots and isolated attacks across the state. The message was received by the IS members’ relatives, who then handed them over to the police authorities.
The investigation agencies are viewing the threat seriously in the wake of upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
Intelligence agencies had earlier intervened to shift the venue of a Jamaat-e-Islami meeting following a threat message received in the name of IS member Sajeer Mangalassery. The Intelligence had found possibility of an attack at the venue using vehicle.
