Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has released data showing 828 police officials were accused in various cases. Those booked under POCSO Act and murder accused also figure in the list. The list includes officials from the DYSP rank and below. Most of the cases were from Thiruvananthapuram.
The government released the figures for the past six years. As many as 14 officials have been convicted. Most of the accused are civil police officers.
There are 118 criminal case accused in Thiruvananthapuram city and rural police districts, 97 in Ernakulam, 63 in Kozhikode and 99 in Alappuzha. A total of 32 officials have been acquitted and 30 FIRs have been quashed by the court. An investigation is underway in 89 cases.
In this period, 23 cases were registered under the POCSO act against police officers, including those in inspector rank.
