Cashew, ghee, 'paalada','sarkara varatti'...Onam kit distribution starts in state


Inauguration of Onam special free kit

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government has started the distribution Onam special kits on Saturday. Minister for Food and Civil Supplies G R Anil inaugurated the distribution of the free food kits at Edapazhanji in Thiruvananthapuram.

The Onam free food kit has16 items including 1 kg sugar, 500 gm coconut oil, 250 gm dal (‘thuvara parippu’), 100 gm tea powder, chilly powder and turmeric powder, 1 kg Sabari powdered salt, 180 gm vermicelli (semiya), 180 gm ‘paalada’ (used to make a dessert), 500 gm brown rice (‘unakkalari’), 50 gm cashewnuts, 20 gm cardamom, 50 mg ghee, 100 gm ‘sarkara varatti’ (sweet banana chips coated with jaggery), 1 kg flour (‘aatta’), one Sabari bath soap and a cloth bag.

The distribution will be completed by August 16 in accordance with the priority under the categorisation of Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), Priority, Non-priority (subsidy) and Non-priority (non-subsidy) cards respectively.

The tender procedures had been completed by confirming the quality of the food items in the kits. A poster of the list of food items and its measurements will be placed in front of all public distribution facilities, said the Minister.

MLA V K Prasanth, Counselor Rakhi Ravikumar, Civil Supplies Director Dr D Sajith Babu, and District Supply Officer C S Unnikrishna Kumar also participated in the inaugural ceremony.
