Kochi: Thrikkakara Municipal chairperson Ajitha Thankappan refuted allegations of distributing Rs 10,000 along with ‘Onakkodi’ to councillors. Ajitha termed the allegations as baseless and said that the opposition has been trying to topple the newly elected UDF-led administration.

Opposition has earlier alleged that the chairperson distributed Rs 10,000 along with ‘Onakkodi’ to 43 councillors in the administration. According to them, the chairperson secretly distributed money to each councillor by calling them into her cabin. The money was given in sealed covers, they allege.

According to the opposition, the money that was distributed was illegal and was received from irregularities in the municipality. If Rs 10,000 was distributed to councillors, then the ruling body members, including chairperson, might have received Rs 25,00,000 each, it is alleged. Reportedly, 18 councillors rejected the money and filed a complaint. The opposition has sought an investigation by the Vigilance Department.

“I don’t have the capacity to give such huge sum of money. I don’t know why these allegations are raised. This comes after the physical attack unleashed on me. They should go ahead with the case. Establishing the truth is also my responsibility and I plan to take the legal course for it,” said Ajitha.
