One killed, 5 injured as police jeep rams into car in TVM

Mangalapuram (Thiruvananthapuram): In a tragic incident, a police jeep that fell into the pit dug for paving interlock tiles rammed into a car killing one and injuring five others. The accident happened at Thursday 11:30 am in Karikkuzhi region of Korani near Mangalapuram here.

The deceased is identified as Anaina (22), a student of Thiruvananthapuram Law College. The four-member family was traveling to Kollam in connection with a wedding proposal for Anaina’s brother Amjad.

The accident happened when the police jeep of Chirayinkeezhu police station fell into a pit dug for paving interlock tiles on the sideways. The police vehicle lost its control and rammed into the car. The people in the both vehicles suffered injuries.

Among the family members, Anaina and Amjad were seriously injured. Both were rushed to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College where Anaina succumbed. Their parents Sajeed and Raji had only minor injuries. Amjad’s injuries are serious and he is undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, the two police officials in the jeep also suffered injuries. Police driver Ahmed was taken to Attingal Taluk Hospital while ASI Shajeer was taken to Chirayinkeezhu District Hospital.
