Palakkad: The Forest Department is likely to register a case against Babu who was trapped in a crevice on Cheradu Koormbachi hills in Malampuzha. The case will be registered under the Kerala Forest Act for trespassing into the protected forest region. Walayar Section Officer will record Babu’s statement before filing the case and taking other measures.
Cheradu Koormbachi hills on which Babu trekked is included in the protected forest region. People are not permitted to enter this region without a permit from the Forest Department. It is under these circumstances that Babu was found to be trespassing the area.
Babu will be charged with a punishable offence under Section 27 of the Kerala Forest Act. Offences under the section will attract imprisonment for a year or fine. The investigation is ongoing for the people who accompanied Babu for trekking. Their statements will also be recorded. They will also face charges depending on their statements.
After an hours-long rescue operation, Babu, the 23-yr-old youth was successfully lifted from the crevice 400 meters below the hilltop after being trapped there for 46 hours. He was hospitalised following the rescue and is said to be recuperating well.
