Palakkad: Rescuing trekker Babu who was trapped between rocks almost 400 meters below the peak of Cheradu Hills was indeed a nail-biting mission. Tamil Nadu Tirupattur native Balakrishnan, also known as Balu was a part of the rescue operation, and his brave act made him nothing short of a hero.
Naik B Balakrishnan is a soldier from the Madras regiment. He joined the Indian Army as he was fascinated by it from a very young age. Balakrishnan is the one who descended to where Babu was sitting and gave him water. He placed Babu on his laps, wore the safety belt, held him close and reached the top of the hill.
Balakrishnan said that he is very happy to have been a part of the rescue operation and that the readiness and unity shown by people who were around is truly commendable.
He has served in various centres of the Indian Army. He has also gained special training for army operations in mountainous regions. His companion and soldier Antony said that Balakrishnan has actively taken part in such rescue operations before and that he has displayed awe-inspiring acts as a soldier.
