Child marriage reported in Malappuram


The matter came to light a few days ago after the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) was informed about the illegal marriage. CWC then informed Childline and transferred the girl to a safe centre.

Malappuram: A case of child marriage was reported in Malappuram where a 16-year-old girl was married off to a man hailing from Vandoor. The marriage took place a year ago. The girl, who is currently six months pregnant, was shifted to a safe centre after Childline services intervened in the matter.

The child marriage was not known to the concerned authorities or any others. The matter came to light a few days ago after the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) was informed about the illegal marriage. CWC then informed Childline and transferred the girl to a safe centre.

The district chairperson of CWC said that the incident has been reported to the police and they have initiated a probe into the matter. According to the police, a case will be registered under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act and POCSO Act, against the man who married the girl.
