Bishop Franco Mulakkal, Prosecution lawyer

Kottayam: The prosecution said that no witnesses turned hostile in the nun rape case and that Bishop Franco Mulakkal was acquitted of all charges without the witnesses changing their statements.

The court heard the statements of 39 witnesses in the case. All were loyal witnesses and did not turn hostile, the prosecution lawyer said while addressing the media.

"Bishop Franco had sought an investigation on the nun who accused him of raping her. The nun raised the allegations after two years, but this could not be proved in court. She claimed that she had told the matter to many people. But all these people said in the court and to the police that they knew nothing of the said abuse. The details were revealed in the interview given by a nun Anupama to a vernacular channel. The interviewer Abhilash Mohan was summoned by the court and the video of the interview was displayed in court. Anupama said that she heard about booking of rape charges only afterwards. She gave the same statement to the court."
