Kochi: According to last year’s statistics of Air Quality Index (AQI), Vyttila falls under the ‘unhealthy’ category, This was found in the study conducted by Kerala State Pollution Control Board from January 2021 to December 2021. The six AQI categories are good, moderate, unhealthy for sensitive groups, unhealthy, very unhealthy, and hazardous.
The study was conducted through 9 observation centres in 6 districts in the state. Eloor, Vyttila and MG road are the observation centres in Kochi. It has been noticed that the AQI level in Vyttila improves during the May-June period. The highest level of air pollution recorded is 198 which was on June 5, 2021.
AQI level of 198 belongs to the category of unhealthy. The level was above 100 in this region from mid-January to June. The AQI level in MG road was close to 100 till March. This falls under the ‘unhealthy for sensitive groups’ category. This level went down halfway through December.
The air quality in Eloor was 50 on most days, albeit being an industrial area. This level falls under the ‘good’ category.
As per the Air Quality Index, Kerala falls under the ‘moderate’ category.
