Kerala Motor Vehicle Department has brought down the penalty for renewal of registration for private vehicles. The renewed rate of registration will be Rs 300 for all vehicles. Currently, the rate of registration for two wheelers is Rs 300 and four wheelers is Rs 500. This rate will be brought down.
For four wheeler vehicles, the penalty will be Rs 300 irrespective of how late the registration is done. Earlier, this was Rs 500 for each month. The State Motor Vehicle Department has sent recommendations in this regard to the Central Motor Vehicle Department. There is also a move to cancel penalties levied from driving licenses that are cancelled.
There will be changes in heavy license norms as well. It is reported that renewal of private license cannot be blocked from now over non-renewal of heavy vehicle license. Sources from MVD stated that drivers of heavy vehicles can opt not to take heavy vehicle license and can still maintain their private vehicle license.
Although the State MVD has instructed the officials regarding bringing down the penalty, the changes are yet to be incorporated into ‘Vahan Parivahan’ website. Hence, the old rates are still being levied.
State Motor Vehicle Department authorities stated that they have filed an application with the National Informatics Centre to make changes in this regard.
