Kerala minister Riyas fines contractor over apathy in finishing work on time
Kozhikode: Giving a clear message to all contractors who do not execute public works properly, the Minister for Public Works, PA Mohammed Riyas, has recommended to fine a Kozhikode-based contractor on Wednesday.
The decision to penalise the contractor was taken after there was no progress in a work at National Highway-766. The contract was taken by Nath Infrastructure Company and the concerned executive engineer has directed to take action in this regard soon.
The company’s lacklustre attitude in finishing the work of National Highway-766 at Thiruvambadi near Pullanjimedu curve was pointed out as the reason behind the decision. Earlier, the minister had visited the spot and also directed the firm to finish the works by October 15. However, the firm could not finish it on time and the decision to penalise was taken.
The minister attracted controversies last week over his remark against MLAs approaching him with contractors. He also said in the assembly that no contactors would be spared if failed to finish works in time and stipulated standards.
