Kerala minister Mohammed Riyas receives flak from party MLAs over remark on recommendation
Thiruvananthapuram: Various CPM legislators have criticised the Minister for Public Works PA Mohammed Riyas over his statement in the assembly against private contractors approaching him with the recommendations of MLAs. It was during the meeting of CPM legislators the minister faced criticism.
On October 7, the minister said in the assembly that the practice of contractors meeting a minister with other contractors or with the recommendation of MLAs is not fair as it may lead to issues later.
However, party MLAs opined that such statements will create a negative image about legislators among public. The criticism was raised first by Thalassery MLA AN Shamseer and later it was carried by Azheekode MLA KV Sumesh and MLA Kadakampallay Surendran.
For clearing various issues in the constituency, MLAs have to contact contractors and it may even demand to meet ministers with them. It should not be considered wrongly and such statements from a minister should not have happened.
Finally, the minister apologised for the remark and also said he did not mean anything negative through his remark.
