Thiruvananthapuram: If Kerala receives permission from the central government to resume public transportation, private buses will be allowed to hit the road with regulations.
The government has decided to allow private buses with reduced passengers while maintaining social distancing. 25 passengers will be allowed in a bus with 51 seats. Ticket charges will be doubled to control the loss of revenue. The transport department has handed over the guidelines regarding this to the government.
KSRTC is levying double the ticket price on buses deployed for the transportation of secretariat employees. KSRTC has been given permission to serve as contract carriages connecting main office buildings, civil stations, Collectorates and High Court among others.
Similarly, private buses will also be allowed to charge double the ticket money. The government will release a special order increasing the ticket charges for a certain period of time.
The government is also considering giving concession from road tax to private buses. Kerala has also asked the Centre to reduce the fuel tax for private vehicles. By reducing the excise toll, Rs 18.83 per litre can be saved.
