Kanjirappally: The police department has taken action against the officer who was accused of stealing mangoes, despite the case being settled. Idukki AR camp civil police officer PV Shihab, who is also a resident of Koottikal, has been dismissed from service. This decision was made on the recommendation of Idukki District Police Chief Kuriakos.
On September 30 at around 4 am, the policeman was caught on CCTV stealing 10 kg of mangoes worth Rs 600 from a shop in Pettakavala in Kanjirappally.

Shihab, who had just finished his shift at Kottayam Medical College, was seen picking up the mangoes and then leaving on his scooter. The shopkeeper filed a complaint with the Kanjirappally police, who registered a case against Shihab. He was caught by the police after 20 days of being on the run.
On October 20, Shihab was acquitted by the court after the shop owner submitted a petition to withdraw the case. The Kanjirapally Judicial First Class Magistrate ordered the closure of the case, and further proceedings under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) were terminated. However, the court stated that the police could investigate if there were any other charges related to the case.
Currently, two cases are pending against Shihab. In 2019, he was accused of rape which was registered by the Mundakayam police, and harassment of women.
