Kerala LSG polls: Postal votes for COVID-19 patients
Thiruvananthapuram: The cabinet has approved the ordinance to allow COVID-19 patients to cast postal votes in the upcoming local body polls.
The ordinance allows COVID patients and other voters suffering from physical ailments to cast postal votes. Also, it has been decided to refund the one month’s salary of government employees which was cut during the COVID times.
The ordinance was issued amending the Panchayat Raj and Municipality Acts. The cabinet also discussed the action to be taken if COVID was confirmed on the previous day of the election.
However, the cabinet decided that the Election Commission can take an appropriate decision in this regard. The time of election has been extended from 7 am to 6 pm. All these changes will be part of the ordinance.
The government also decided to re-promulgate 23 expired ordinances.
One month’s salary of government employees was cut during the COVID times. 20 percent of the salary was cut in five months. This will be dissolved in the PF with 9 percent interest. The period of leave without pay has been reduced from 20 years to five years.
