Thiruvananthapuram: The Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries has recommended the state government to hike both ticket price and prize money of Onam Bumper lottery. The proposal is to increase the ticket rate from Rs 300 to Rs 500, while the prize money (first prize) will be increased from Rs 12 crore to Rs 25 crore. Similarly, second prize will be Rs 5 crore and third prize of Rs 1 crore each will be given to 10 persons.
If the government approves the proposal it will be a new chapter in the history of Kerala Lotteries as the prize money will be the highest amount ever offered by the lottery department.
Meanwhile, the proposal to hike both ticket rate and prize money has evoked mixed reactions. Some say hiking the prize money will give more acceptance for Onam Bumper lottery. On the other hand, some pointed out that there are concerns on how the ticket price hike affect the lottery sales.
