Kerala logs 5,405 new COVID cases, death tolll touches 40,535
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 5,405 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, informed the health department in a press release.
Along with 96 new COVID deaths, the health department also reported 307 deaths that are newly certified as Covid-19 deaths based on the revised rules. With this, the death toll climbed to 40,535 in the state.
The district-wise statistics of positive cases: Thiruvananthapuram-988, Ernakulam-822 Kozhikode-587, Thrissur-526, Kottayam- 518 Kollam-351, Malappuram-282, Pathanamthitta-253, Kannur-236, Wayanad-220, Idukki-193, Palakkad- 180, Alappuzha-162 and Kasaragod-87. Test positivity rate was climbed at 8.42 percent.
A total of 64,191 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised based on the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 10 in 21 wards of 19 local self-government bodies.
1,50,435 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 1,45,733 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 4,702 people are in hospitals. 275 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.
Among the 44,124 active Covid cases reported, only 7.5 percent of patients are admitted to hospitals/field hospitals.
14 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 5,093 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 260 patients remains unidentified. 38 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 4,538 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district-wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram- 541, Kollam-336, Pathanamthitta-203, Alappuzha-155, Kottayam-262, Idukki-279, Ernakulam-676, Thrissur-390, Palakkad-193, Malappuram-212, Kozhikode-843, Wayanad-199, Kannur-200 and Kasaragod-49.
50,61,906 people were recovered from the disease so far.
