Kerala logs 30,196 new Covid cases on Wednesday; death toll crosses 22,000
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 30,196 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, informed the health department in a press release. With 181 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 22,001. Test positivity rate was recorded at 17.63 percent.
The district - wise statistics of positive cases: Thrissur - 3832, Ernakulam - 3611, Kozhikode - 3058, Thiruvananthapuram - 2900, Kollam - 2717, Malappuram - 2580, Palakkad - 2288, Kottayam - 2214, Alappuzha - 1645, Kannur - 1433, Idukki - 1333, Pathanamthitta - 1181, Wayanad – 894, and Kasaragod - 510.
A total of 1,71,295 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. In total, 3,28,41,859 samples including routine sample, sentinel sample, CBNAAT, Truenat, POCT, PCR, RTLAMP, antigen were sent for the tests.
The local bodies have been categorised on the basis of the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 7 in the wards of 794 local bodies. Among them, 692 places are identified in urban areas and 3416 are in rural areas.
190 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 28,617 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 1259 patients remains unidentified. 130 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 27,579 recoveries were also reported in the state.
The district - wise statistics of recoveries: Thiruvananthapuram - 1646, Kollam - 2077, Pathanamthitta - 1191, Alappuzha - 1966, Kottayam - 2198, Idukki - 907, Ernakulam - 2648, Thrissur - 2698, Palakkad - 2267, Malappuram - 3019, Kozhikode - 3265, Wayanad - 1222, Kannur - 2003 and Kasaragod - 472.
With this, the number of active cases touched 2,39,480 in the state. 40,21,456 were recovered from the disease so far.
6,08,228 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 5,75,411 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 32,817 people are in hospitals. 2587 people were taken to hospitals on Wednesday.
