Kerala logs 23,260 new COVID cases, 131 deaths
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala recorded 23,260 new Covid-19 cases on Friday, informed health department in a press release. With 131 new fatalities, the death toll mounted to 23,296.
The district - wise statistics of positive cases: Thrissur-4013, Ernakulam-3143, Kozhikode-2095, Thiruvananthapuram-2045, Malappuram-1818, Alappuzha-1719, Palakkad-1674, Kollam-1645, Kottayam-1431, Kannur-1033, Pathanamthitta-983, Idukki-692, Wayanad- 639 and Kasaragod-330.
A total of 1,28,817 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The local bodies have been categorised on the basis of the weekly infection population ratio (WIPR). WIPR is above 8 in 2507 wards in 678 local self-governments.
5,37,823 people are currently under observation in the state. Out of this, 5,11,461 people are under home/institutional quarantine and 26,362 people are in hospitals. 1899 people were taken to hospitals on Friday.
Among the 1,88,926 active Covid cases reported, only 12.8 percent patients are admitted to hospitals / field hospitals.
159 of the new COVID patients were returned from outside the state. 21,983 people contracted the virus through contact. The infection source of 998 patients remains unidentified. 120 health workers also tested positive for Covid-19.
Meanwhile, 20,388 recoveries were also reported in the state.

With this, the number of active cases touched 1,88,926 in the state. 42,56,697 were recovered from the disease so far.
